How Did Government War Policies Affect Canadians ?
When the Canadians were sent to war they didn't really have the industrial capacity to wage war. Therefore William Lyon Mackenzie had to get everything set up for the industries to run. King wanted to do things differently, than the way things were don in the Great War. So, he picked a guy names Howe and he became the minister of everything. He had handpicked all the industries that would manufacture weapons and machines for the war. King also created the war time price board and trade to try and control the economy after the war, since industries that were dependant on war stopped making war equipment. There was also a wage freeze. After the depression, king thought people needed a break so he allowed wages to rise the first year after the war than froze it. He only increased it sometimes but only to appropriate levels. However, a price freeze followed. Prices of all goods were frozen at some levels on October 1941. Finally there was rationing. Certain goods were hard to get during the war. To ensure the goods were fairly shared, the government issued a ration book. The concept of a ration book was to control how many goods each person could produce and import. During the war the government was very keen on keeping its war and other secrets. So they had letters censored to and from the front so people who knew certain things wouldn't need leek it to the enemies.
